Planning your honeymoon can be just as daunting as the wedding. With weddings usually designed after a collaboration of planners, family and friends, a honeymoon is the perfect opportunity for you and your future spouse to work together on a fun project that can prove to be both relaxing and rewarding. If you are in the position to take a honeymoon, it is strongly suggested that you do so. This may be one of the few times you and your spouse can have a romantic getaway with just the two of you and no kids in tow. Here are a few tips that are good to know when planning your honeymoon:
If you are in need of essential travel items, such as luggage, luggage tags, travel wallets or any travel essentials, put these items on your bridal registry. You can even go easy on yourself and do some online shopping with companies that offer online bridal registries. A couple of online registries to consider are Target.com and Macys.com.
Use a travel agent. A travel agent will remove most of the stress of planning. Plus, you can take advantage of the agent’s expertise to find a destination that will suit both or your tastes. Instead of shopping for plane tickets, finding hotels and forming your own itinerary just tell the travel agent your wishes and let them go to work. Besides, travel agents won’t cost you any extra.
Be resourceful…financially. Plan to take more money that you need. After all, you’ve spent a great deal on unique wedding favors, wedding party gifts and who knows what else. Don’t get cheap on yourself. A suggestion is to travel with American Express Travelers Cheque Card.. This card combines the convenience of ATM or debit cards with the same security once offered through traveler’s cheques. Safety is the main appeal of a prepaid travel cash card: If your card is lost or stolen, American Express or Visa will issue a new card or refund the unused balance. You will also have more control over your spending when the card is prepaid. Be sure to carry an extra credit card in event an establishment does not honor prepaid cards, ie car rentals.
Travel alone. Just the two of you and no extras….no family, no friends, no pets and definitely NO KIDS!
If you are planning the honeymoon without the help of an agent, now is the time to use your frequent flyer miles for free tickets and even upgrades to first class.
Be sure to carry your marriage license. If the bride is changing her name, this will cut down confusion at airport security.
When traveling abroad, have your passport current at least three months in advance. See the honeymoon timeline.
When making hotel reservations, let them know that you’re honeymooning. You may get free upgrades to the honeymoon suite or even open your hotel door to a romantic setting complete with wine wedding favors or an awesome gift basket.
Remember your spouse! Keep in mind that you must be considerate of your spouse’s wishes. Share the fun.
Finally, schedule time to do nothing at all. You’ve mastered the planning of the biggest day of your life. Take one day, order room service and chill!
